LRSG vs. USG

Hi Al,

I am going to be doing two wire line rods and was thinking about trying LRSG instead of USG. My thinking is the LRSG will have a little more flex thus not stiffening up the blank as much as USG.

I am doing BT857S at 6 1/2ft trimming from the butt and using slick butts & fuji HD reel seats.

What is your valuable opinion?

Billy

Hi Billy,

Sounds like you are building a "parachute rod". What reel and lb test wire will you be using?

The charter boats down here use a 4/0 Senator and 50 lb test wire when using parachutes. Either of the guide models will work. Howver, depending on the size of the reel I would go with the folowing guide sizes: 25,20,16,16,12,12 plus a UST tip with a #12 ring. Make sure any swivel you use can pass through the tip top and the #12 guides.

Al

Bingo!

I was going to start with a 20, but you think a 25 will be better?

Yes, 114 special senator and 50lb wire.

I have the UST tips already. I have been using those since my problems with the carbide( carbaloy?)tips and the rings falling off as soon as any stress was put on them.
