permagloss rod blank finish ???

Rate this topic

2 posts in this topic

Al i've stripped the wrappings off a rod i made several years ago. Where the rappings used to be,the blank finish is messed up so I sanded it very lightly with very fine sandpaper. I spoke to mike at cape cod tackle and he said to use permagloss (urethane base) on those areas. my local supplier said he has permagloss water base.

Whats the difference and what should I do ?

Thanks Rich.

Bass,

If you are going to re-wrap the guides in the same positions then mask of the areas on both ends with masking tape and apply a thin coat of regular finish. Allow it to cure at least for a week before you put of your new underwraps.

If you are going to change the position of the guides then Permagloss will work fine on those areas. Permagloss is a solvent based finish that sets up very quickly, so I recommend that you do some test applications on a piece of scrap blank before working on the rod.
