Removing Factory reel seat

Easy as cake!

Take a dremel if you have one, and with a cut off wheel, you make a spiral cut from one end to the other. Now you can pry that thang off with a flathead screwdriver. Easy does it though as you do not want to crack the blank!

If it is a graphite seat, I cut and pry off the hoods and chuck it on the lathe. With sharp tools it's a snap to shave off the seat and most of the epoxy and bushings. This also makes for a nice quick preparation of the blank for whatever comes next.

good luck and please, wear eye protection icon14.gif

Careful with the Dremel, but it's the way I've done it. Instead of the spiral cut, I cut it down the side with the cutoff wheel directed to just cut the side, not toward the blank. Once you have a slit down a side(or two) hit with the heat and pull it off.
