Dual purpose rods?

Rate this topic

I sometimes see surf rods described as being built dual-purpose; that is, able to be used both spin and conventional. What does this mean? What are the compromises?

Thanks in advance... smile.gif

A "dual purpose rod" probably has spinning guides large enough to accomodate a spinning reel and can also be used with a conventional reel. I have seen rods set up for spinning used with a conventional reel.

The tradeoff is that you probably will not get optimum performance from the rod.

I know that Conoflex offers it. They use more guides than a spin rod would normally have. It you're using braid on a modern spin reel I can't see it affecting things to much. Mono it would.
