Late season striper rod?

Hi Al,

I have a friend that is looking for a late season striper rod to use on his kayak. He will be fishing around Montauk as well as the North Shore. He needs an 8' rod to clear the bow of his 16' kayak while having enough back bone to pull the fish up when he is in a vertical tug of war. He will be drifting and casting lures around 1-1½ oz (sweetspot) and using braided line. He may be fishing with a conventional or spinner. He prefers graphite, but composite may be better. Lastly, he is on a limited budget. A tall order.

My heaviest rod to date is a Loomis Back Bouncer and I think it's way too light. I have done a little research and came up with the following:

St Croix G80H2 15-40 ¾-3 .750 7 $84

Rainshadow SWS696 20-40 .920 7.5 $70.59

Lami CGX96XH 30 ¾-3¼ .645 7 $94

Ugly Stik USU95-5 15-40 .730 7 $38.36

Ugly Stik Gutts Butts GBU96-5 15-50 .766 7.5 $45.30

What do you think of the above choices. What else would you recommend? Maybe something in a Calstar/Seeker? Thanks for everything.
