Hi Al ,

I read your post about using 5 min epoxy to repair a tip. Do you use that on new rods too? What's the pros and cons of using the 5 min epoxy vs the Fuji hot melt tip glue?

Thanks

Mike

I use the 5-minute epoxy for my new rods. The fact that hot melt glue/adhesive has a low melting point makes me a bit nervous if I am fishing hot weather, with my luck the ip has the possiility to come loose. Also if you leave a rod in a car during a hot summer day, it is also possible for the tip to loosen at the worst time.

The 5-minute epoxy can be removed by heating with a (propane only?) torch. It takes a little more heat to do the trick that the glue though. DO NOT keep the flame near the tip for too long, it may burn the graphite fibers, thus ruining your rod. Apply the heat a little at a time, and do not twist the tip off. i beleive there is a post here explaining how to do this. - I am not a repair guy.
