base wrap question

okay, here's a bute. I finished what might be my best double diamond wrap ever on a surf rod, or any rod for that matter. I bound it down with a base wrap at top and in front of the handle. As I look at it now, the rear base wrap is a touch too long. I went mid diamond but should have ended in front of a diamond. I tried pushing the thread back with a burnisher, but only gained a slight amount. Any ideas?

I'm not sure I understand correctly but....put some tape around the part that you want to keep minus about 7 wraps. then just unwrap the base wrap and rewrap stopping where you want. The extra 7 wraps is to pull it under to lock.

Did I get the right question?

Thanks Saltheart. You got the question right and I understand the answer. I may leave it as is though, the wrap looks too good. The basewrap is a tad long, but I think that since its black, the whole thing may blend in when the finish is applied.
