White Thread

Al,

I'd like to build a rod with white thread. And was hoping you have had some experience with this color thread

Are you aware of any downside to using white thread?

What should I use to paint the blank under the wraps so the color of the blank does not show through?

And lastly, what type of color preserver should I use, if any?

Thanks in advance,

qhg

Qhg,

- mask off the area of the under wrap.

- use 400 grit paper to gently dull the finish of the blank. Clean the area with alcohol and paper towels.

- Apply two thin coats of white latex ceiling paint. Let it dry overnight.

- Wrap with white NCP thread.

- Apply two thin coats of Clemens Brilliance 2 color sealant. Let sealant dry 48 hours.

- Apply a thin coat of finish to the underwraps. Allow to dry 48 hours before wrapping on the guides.

Downside of using white thread is that it yellows over time when exposed to sunlight.

Hope this helps.

Al

Matty is correct. Clean hands are a must when wrapping. I even go as far as wearing surgical gloves when wrapping with light colored threads.
