Epoxy and heat gun method

Big Dave, just tried your suggestion on using a heat gun on finish epoxy. It extended the pot life of the finish nicely. It also leveled out the finish very well. I applied it a little on the lite side though, so it's going to require another coat. Thanks for the tip. Is great to learn new techniques to help make things easier.

Now if I can only get that "trans-ditch" casting technique down....But i'm still practicing..

Thanks again Dave...

Bob

What do you suggest as a good cure time before using a rod after it's coated?????

Glad this technique works for you. In general , anything that blows hot air is risky since dust can also be blown onto the finish. My shop is too dusty so I use a flame but I'm glad to hear it worked well for you.

Good to hear that you had nice results with the heat gun. As for cure time. My own personal rods I,ve fished the very next day. As for other rods they sit for a bit for no other reason than waiting to be picked up.

Are there certain finish brands that respond better to heat than others for the purpose of leveling the finish and removing bubbles? I have been using Classic Coat high build.

I was using Glass Coat for the first time, and it responded very well to the heat. Can't tell you if others work as well, this was the first time I tried using the heat to work the finish. I have been told that Flex Coat also responds well.
