The next project I'll be working on is to rebuild an old S-Glass 11' foot blank I have laying around. Just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on a reel seat for this rod. Presently it's narrowed down to either a Fuji trigger seat or heavy-duty graphite.

Other pertinent info:

Reel - Calcutta 400 (maybe upgrading to something larger in the future if needed)

Handle material - I'm thinking about "Quick Grip" with some mono underneath to give it a patterned effect.

Rod Use - Eels (mostly), jigs, and plugs (rarely).

I like the ideal of the trigger since I've been using one for many years on freshwater casting rods. Just curious if it will hold up to the intended purpose of the rod or is the heavy-duty graphite better for this application. The regular Fuji seat is not an option. I need something under the rod for my finger to get a grip on to feel comfortable casting.

Any thoughts?

John,

I would go with the biggest trigger seat Fuji makes thast will fit that blank.

I have put trigger seats on heavy boat jigging rods and surf rods. People love them.

Unless things have changed---the biggest trigger seat Fuji makes is a 24, and it won't fit any S-glass blank. I think my old cut SSB 136 2F convie has a 26 seat.

You can get a trigger clamp for some reel models--but I don't know whether the Calcutta 400 is one of them.
