Boy.... you aint kiddin' Slappy..........I think these 14" Hogys are the best eel imitators going! :th:

....but tell me, how do you suggest using them from the surf while getting some decent distance.....

Getting distance is over rated.  Last season I was fishing behind a surf guy.  He was standing out past me and not catching, I was casting at the shore and catching.

The double wides are great to throw when it is windy and you need a little extra distance, you have to downsize to the 10", the more compact baits will fly farther.  Or use the 13" with a half ounce head.  And seriously, stop casting so far!

True......you hear it all the time-----the fish are at your feet.  Problem is, though, fishing these south jersey sandy beaches--- i need to get out between that first and second bar the majority of the times :th:

As I said in the post dedicated to this one, the fish gods were smiling on me that morning.

looks like he did a number on that hook.

You can see that it opened up that heavy Hogy hook a bit. 30# braid to 30# mono. That FG knot was tied months before and held. As did the ugly clinch knot. I got lucky.

The fish washed away seconds after I snapped the LivePhoto. No one else around for a proper hero shot.

Where was that? I'm going to the keys for tarpon in a few weeks and was going to use Hogys, mostly the original series . Got a few hookups on them in carribean but couldn't land em in a marina, they kept breaking me off

I'll try to dig up some pics of some stuff I've caught on RonZ lures

Jupiter Island, north of Palm Beach. Middle of mullet run but this pod of tarpon were feeding on smaller white bait.

Rather than retell the tale, you can find it all here.

That FG was inspired by that guy who pulls them so tight you think the lines will break. Only 30# but I wrapped both braid and leader around wooden spoons and pulled until the entire length of the knot went translucent. Did the trick in that case.
