Hook Set Position

Rate this topic

I have just had an old Lamiglas rebuilt and had a hook set installed about 6" ahead of the reel position toward the tip but on the opposite side from the reel. I just used the rod and several times when I was plugging and the line slacked the line hung up on the hook set. What is the proper or prefered position on a spinning rod? Thanks.

I really think I am going to have it removed. On a couple of my surf rods I took a plastic wire tie and threaded it through a stainless split ring and mounted it below the reel position and that worked fine. But, the guide struts work fine too. Live and learn... I hope. Thanks.

The keeper that the fellow installed is a small stainless line guide so it will stand up to salt and abuse, but it hangs up the line. NO GOOD. He wrapped it nicely too. I know that I havew to be careful of placement if I use the guides so as to not damage the guide itself and cause problems when a fish is on. Thanks.
