I recently built a gsb1081M spinning rod. I can't decide if I made the butt section too long. It is 22" to the base of the reel seat. I am 6'5" so I wanted to make sure it is long enough. Better too long than too short, I heard. I do not know if I want to or need to, but what kind of change in the function of the rod could I expect if I were to remove a little length from the butt. Thanks for any input.

Zimmy,

If you are 6'5" then 22 inches might even be too short. I would not trim it any shorter.

By shorten the butt you will get less leverage in loading the rod resulting in shorter casts.

Al,

Thanks for your input. That's what I hoped to hear. It throws metal and plugs a mile, but while reeling the butt just seemed long compared to others I have used. It is a great rod and hopefully I can keep my father from stealing it.
