was tinking of getting an AllStar rod built- but I see that some are designated as "breakaway" models... does this mean they are made for distance/competition casting? are they good for all around rods? I'm considering the 1265/2 or 1387/2. thanks! Bob

In the surf rod world:

All Star=blank

Breakaway=production rod built on All Star blank

All of the Breakaways are practical fishing rods, even the ones used by tournament casters. Some of them aren't as practical for the northeast but they all have their uses, even the 1509/2 "one piece two piece".

If you go to the All Star website, the blanks marked with an * are the ones Breakaway uses to produce their finished rods. Unfortunately, they don't make a production rod on my favorite All Star blank, the 1208 frown.gif

I have the Alstar 1265 and it is a joy to cast. Its will really sling a 2 oz stingsilver a long, long ways. It will also throw 3 oz but that is about the max that it can do. I have not experience with the other model.

Best regards,

Tom
