Al, I stripped off the old guides on a MB96 3m, what weight sandpaper do you recommend to clean up the blank?

Also, whenever someone asks for guide recommendations, you give SIC and Hardloy. Both great guides series without question. But what are your thoughs on the Alconites? The BMNAG is heavely used down south, would like to know thoughts.

Thanks

Bob

For final surface preparation when refininshing a blank I use either 600 grit paper, both wet and dry, or a fine finishing pad. I like the pad better since it does not leave much residue.

After final sanding, clean the blank several times with isopropyl alcohol and a lintfree cloth.

I have never used alconite guides. For the type of fishing I do I tend to use heavier frame guides like the HNSG or BHNLG series. However, I am sure that the alconites you are considering will work well with the blank that you have.

I will be building several albacore spinning rods over the winter and have decided to use the alconite YAG's for these rods.
