how much does the average custom rod cost?

i know the answer is "it varies" but lets just say im interested in a lamiglas for about $150 to throw plugs from 1oz -4oz. would it be better to go custom for this type of rod or off the shelf and if i have one custom made, where in Nassau county and how much would it cost me?

thanks much guys

see ya at the fling on LI saturday!

The only Lami custom you'll touch for $150 is one built on an E-glass blank. If you can get a graphite on LI for $250 you're doing really good. You might do it for around that if you get the blank yourself and find someone who'll wrap it.

Hi,

Are you familiar with Flynn's Long Island Rod Crafting located in Wantagh by the RR Station? Give Mark a call and ask for a price quote after telling him what you would like. 1-516-785-2328.

Remember that having a custom rod made is just that, a rod made just for you to your specs. You have the cost of components, labor and also the knowledge and experience of the person crafting your rod. Good work does not come cheap.

Without artwork ,uisng all Fuji Hardloy guides and fuji SiC tip , a custom graphite Lami (GSH type) for tossing 1-4 OZ will be about $265. For an Arra Lami (XRA type) add about $60 more.

Art work and all Sic Guides if desired adds considerably to your cost.

If ya come up to Mass, a guy up here does a grade A job wit fuji Hardloy on say a 1201L for $200-215. CMS Enterprise is in that ball park too but you gotta request the Fujis. Quality customs have come down in price IMO.

Got to agree that Mark Flynn is a good local choice. All he does is build rods, probably built thousands of 'em. You should make it a point to check out his place.

Just remember there are 'custom rod builders" out there that wrap nice looking rods but do not have clue as to guide placement....Sometimes the best price is not always the best job.

Before you settle on a rod builder talk to people that have had rods built by a person and find out what they like/did not like....

You would hate to spend $200.00-300.00 on a rod and not be happy with it.

Might be a good idea to talk to the rod builders previous customers ,check out the rods that they had made for them. It's just a little of advice before you spend all that money.

I normally just add about $40.00 for the price of components above the cost of the blank. But if you will look at all of the advantages of a custom build rod that is exactly what you want in terms of weight. balance, spiraled or regular etc, the cost might be greater but so is the performance.
