I used to fish a freshwater "flipping stick" from the beach for several years.. gotta lotta good use from it... i'm looking at getting a rod for casting 1/2 - 2 oz and want something super light when i really don't have to get it waaaay out there and the likelihood of big fish is small (most of the time for me)..

i've used long rods for quite a few years now and for some reason, even 8' seems like it is too short... what do you guys and gals think about fishing a 7 or 8 footer from the open beaches and inlets with plugs, jigs and small metals?

thanks

how about a few blank recommendations? thinking of maybe trying a composite or glass to keep the cost down, but afraid i'll be too disappointed with the casting abilities.. thoughts?

Composite Blank: batson 967 8fter

Glass: lami MB963M

9ft: Lami MB1083M

I think the batson 1087 is too mush for what you want.

If you want to step up:

8ft: Lami GLB961 L or M(?)

9ft XRA1084 is a sweet blank.

can't go wrong with the MB series from Lami

I agree with WOrc. if youre throwing lighter stuff with a conv reel, a 9ft s-glass is a GRAET choice. reason being that the rod loads effortlessly. youll feel fine throwing smaller stuff. Best thing about the 9ft s-glass (SSB 108 3M) is that its cheap, right around $100 give or take depening on where you get it and also, its a proven fish catcher. people have been catching big fish on glass for a LONG TIME...

Maybe Todd V can jump in or someone with a Lami blank catalog in front of them.

I think confused.gif

"S" (structural right??) glass is generally lighter in weight than "E" ( Electric???) Glass.

I have always been a fan of lami glass blanks

Maybe Crstln can jump in on the batson SW967 beacuse I know he has one in spin.
