I am going to costa rica and I thought my setup was good for surfishing, but now I am rethinking my reel...I havd the 11 foot ron arra rated for 1 to 3 oz.....I have teh nautil 6500 on it, I was told that a bigger reel could give me as mush as 40 to 50% more distance...what do you think? is that the way to go?

Joe,

I am not a spin fisherman. However, the first thing for maximum casting distance is a balanced outfit that includes thr rod, reel, line and lure. If the Nautil 6500 is the proper matxhing reel to the rod you are using then changing to a larger reel will put the set up out of balance.

A larger reel could give you added distance to a degree. The added line capacity of the spool would mean that you would go into the spool depth to a leeser degree resulting in less friction as the line comes off the front lip of the spool.

If you are using braided line like Power Pro, then you will be able to get lots of line on the spool. This should give you greater casting distance.
