yo-yo guides

Al,

I'm entering new territory. I'm building a yo-yo jigging rod to match my 454 yt pro gear. I'm thinking either a Calstar 700m or a 670 around the 40# range. I'm more interested in chucking the iron rather than plunking it and I'm not sure what guides I would use for a little more distance but tuff enough for tuna and other speedsters. Any help will be greatly appreciated. By the way, awesome articles they really guided me straight, so to say.

Thanks,

Jason B

PS At what point is triple wrapping needed?

Jason,

I like the Fuji HNSG guides for 40# and I think Louis-Bad Fish and J. Akuhead on the Westcoast Board would agree.

I double overwrap all my offshore rods up to 50 lb, and triple overwrap the 80#'s and up.

All my multi-overwraps are done with size "A" thread and a thin coat of finish applied between each overwrap. You should wait a minimum of 48 hours for the finish to cure before doing your next overwrap.

Al
