Well, I tried. The guides (held on w/neo tubing) spun around the blank when I cast. Distance wasn't too bad though. Conclusion: inconclusive.

I am in the planning and"layout"stages of building a"spiral" wrapped surf rod.I am acquainted with a builder(part-time)who has built about 10 spirals,3 of which were "surf-type" rods(9-11 1/2ft,2 piece. His customers are"pleased-to-death)with the rods.

I was at his home/shop Sat.PM when one of the guys dropped in with 2 surf rods that he wants rebuilt as spirals.

As with most things there different"takes" on how to accomplish the spiral wrap as far as how many guides to accomplish the turn, spacing during the turn, offset of the 1st guide, etc.

For a THOROUGH look into the spiral/Roberts/revolver wrap go to www.rodbuilding.org and do a thouough Archive search and read;then go to their board and also to www.rodguild.com for informed questions and answers. Hope this helps.Neil
