guide size

I had a 10ft lami M made with SIC guides. I was reading that the guide closest to reel should be at least 3/4 spool size and the next one a certain size also. I am using a VS250 with #30 braid. My SIC guides are no where near that big. When I had it made they did not make the guides that big (so what I was told).

Am I loosing distance with the guides not being at least 3/4 the spool size?

Should I put bigger guides on the two closest to the reel?

Sell the rod to me and get another made tongue.gif

I think a lot of people use the 40HH on that rod. With the big spool of the VS250 the size 50 ring may be better, but if you're using braid it probably won't make a hill of beans a difference.

Another thing that helps dictate which size guide ring you use is the distance the guide is from the reel spool.

There are times when you can go with a smaller ring

and put it further away from the reel and still get optimum performance......that is providing you dont get any line slap on the blank.

The 40HH is very popular these days especially when using braid.

If you could get your hands on a copy of Clemen's

Advanced Custom Rodbuilding there is a chapter that explains that at times a smaller guide ring will actually help with casting distance as it will choke the line and help shoot it out the rest of the guides.
