No Guides on Butt Section

From a number of the spacing recommendations I've read from you and others, it looks like many surf spinning rods have no guides on the butt section of a two-piece blank. Is this correct? Is is common and okay for the stripper to be all the way out on the tip section with the butt holding only the handle and reel seat?

It depends on the length of the butt section, the size of the spool face and the type of line used.

If you are using a mono on a large diameter spool you will need to move the stripper closer to the reel then with softer lines like braid. You are trying to prevent line slap between the spool and the stripper guide.

Another factor is the length of the butt grip. A long butt grip will move everything

Here are some general guidelines for 1012 foot surf spin rods:

Length of butt from end to base of reelseat - 26 inches.

Face of spool to stripper guide 34-36 inches.

The are approximate. You will need to test cast and determine if they are comfortable to cast and giving you the distance you need.
