Have used both methods, printed labels are way better. I use a program called "Paint", you can get all sorts of fonts and sizes and make it look really pro.Just make sure to spray it with Artists Fixative, available in any craft store.I then coat it with color preserver. A good thing to do is to wrap the label around a spare blank so it takes the right shape. Lay it on, epoxy over it and yer done. Make sure that you apply a black marker to the edges if the label is gonna be ona dark background.

if you use the gel pen on the blank, make sure you have a piece of paper to keep the ink flowing.

you can buy the water slide clear label paper, it makes it easier to write on , then you just epoxy over when completely dry.

if you have access to a printer that does metallics, you can do the same with fonts in reversal with the permanent spray fix and water slide paper.
