bought an ugly stick last year before i knew any better redface.gif it's the BWS 12ft rated 2-12oz and it has a real flimsy tip. would still like to use the rod occasionally for spiking with chunks...so i'f i cut some off the top of the rod and reattached a tip would it help or make things worse ? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

By cutting the tip down some, you are just changing the rating to about 4oz - 12oz. If you cut more than four inches then it could change to 6oz - to 12oz. This will also stiffen the rods action from Mod-Fast to Mod-Heavy.

2-12 oz is a bit optimistic for any rod.

I find the Ugly Sticks in the heaver line to be as nice to load as a telephone pole.

If ou "tip" That rod you'll lose the ability to toss lighter stuff and it will still need a box of lead to load it up very well.

My opinion, while not trying to sound like Simon Cowell?

Leave it alone and fish it as the sapling it is and save up for a better designed rod. I'd get a Lami SSB 136-3M, some Alconite guides and have it built for you. If you can afford Graphite, get a Lami 132-1M or one of the heavier Breakaway rods.

Sorry to bear bad news redface.gif

I'd cut that thing in a heartbeat. It's too miserably heavy to ever be any fun tossin' 2 oz. stuff with and you might as well make the meat stick out of it that you're wanting.
