I am building an 11' lamiglass surf rod and I would like to know the best way to lay down the cork tape. Do I lay it at an angle and cut it flush or is there another trick. Thanks for the help.

i use doubble fase tape from a golf store $6.00 a roll

itape the doubble face to the left at 20 or 15 deg. [ or less]

then 1/8 cork tape to the right side

at the end at the reel seat cut close to it use craze glue the end's

then thread the end's and epoxy the end's

What I like to do is lay the blank down on a set of v blocks, with the tip to the left of me. Start the cork tape on an angle, wrapping away from youself, and leaving some overlapping on the butt. Be sure to wrap away from yourself, this way you when you sand it to taper it down, the tape won't peel up. Wrap a strip of electrical tape once or twice around the bottom, about where the end of the blank is. Take a razor blade, and carefully cut the cut the cork tape to the butt of the blank. Now, you can trim all the excess off flush. Continue up however far you'd like, or to where the bottom of your reel seat will be. Epoxy the butt cap on over the bottom of the tape. You can use the same process in wrapping cork tape by the reel seat. Good Luck!
