got a great deal on a penn slammer spin/surf rod

however the tip was missing the inner ring.

my question how to remove tip without cutting.

can it be heated to removed.

I have replaced tips before but always on broken rods.

Thanks cwm12.gif

Be careful with the torch, you can damage the rod if it gets too hot. I like a butane lighter myself. Most tips come off with very little heat.

I typically use a butane lighter and hot melt like stated above, BUT:

A guy who owned and ran an archery shop told me to use a low melt adhesive and and alcohol lamp to glue in inserts for graphite arrows. He said to use your fingers to hold the insert because if the insert got so hot that you couldn't hold on to it that it would damage the carbon fiber.

I am not sure how they manufactur rod blanks as opposed to arrow blanks, but it is all carbon fiber & epoxy resin holding it together. Arrow fibers run straight so if it gets cracked it still looks OK, but its not (if you shoot the arrow that is even cracked you run the risk of it being driven THRU your forearm?! frown.gif )

May be some one from a rod blank manufacturing company could verify this for us about what hot is TOO HOT before it damages the blank/tip. Its only an inch or so of rod blank, but its kind of an important high stress area.
