Finding out what WT line?

Rate this topic

4 posts in this topic

If I have a 9ft blank, the tip is 4 and butt is around 10mm where real seat would go, the blank is not marked for line wt., any way of knowing by some formula? I was told it was for a 5, but that may have been a guess.

If it is for a 5, if i shorten it a foot, could i then go with a 6/7 line??

thanks

You could just test cast it with a few different lines to see which line weight works best for the rod for you. Which is what I would probably do. Or if you do a google search on "common cents rodbuilding" you will find articles on a system that has been developed to do just what you are looking for.

going to NC / Oregon inlet late Jan , Stripers / Charter boat...of course i need a new rod....conventional, not decided acid or reg (wrong?)...I prefer 8'-8.5'...i don't boat fish for 'em in NJ, so I need a new stick...any suggestions....use with a ABU 7000 / 50 # PP...or maybe a new reel to match it up...i appreciate any suggestions...blank between $110 - $150
