Lathe chuck ?

Rate this topic

I'm in thr process of putting together a power wrapper and have a quesion about the chuck. I have the sewing machine motor going to a pulley about 8 inches or so the shaft that the pulley rides on is where the chuck will need to be mounted.

The shaft is about 3/8 in diameter and is drilled and tapped in the center for a 1/4 20 thread. It seems that all of the lathe chucks that I see in catalogs are made to be threaded onto something 3/4 or 1 inch in diameter. Is there a do-dad that I could either couple to the outside or thread into the shaft that I have, and then be able to thread a lathe chuck to the other side ?

Thanks.

Hi KML HappyWave.gif The 3 jaw self centering taig mini lathe chuck is the chuck alot of guys use..It has a 3/4-16 female thread..As far as adapters I have never seen one..What I did was started with a 3/4-16 bolt so you don't have to mess with getting the right thread then I machined the shoulder part of the bolt to 3/8 to accept the pully..Hope this helps..
