Hi Al

I have a real light rod. I think it is called a mega-lite by Fin-Nor. My question is probably generic. My son broke the tip off in the car. Lost about 1.5 inches off the tip. This made the end real close to the first guide. I thought I should have the guide moved down. The guy who fixed the rod for me said there were already too many guides. He suggested that I have more guides taken off. I think it is has about 8 guides for a 6.5 foot rod. Is there a disadvantage to having so many guides. I thought it would distibute the stress to the rod around better. Thanks

Tom,

My guess is that the rod has been set up with the Fuji Concept guide system. By removing guides you will disturb the load distribution and casting ability of the rod.

However, if you stripped the rod of all the guides and replaced them with the larger standard spinning guides then you could go with fewer guides. This would be very costly and not give you any significant advantage.

My recommendation is to leave the guides as they are.

Al
