Old graphite rod

Rate this topic

I have a 10 year plus lami gsb1321m blank that was tied up as a spinning blank. I would like to rewrapp as a conventional.

Do old graphite rods lose their action. Will it impact on casting distance etc.

Any other recommendations are welcome.

Thanks Al,

I have an old Lami graphite that I wrapped more then twenty years ago that still casts well.

Remember that there are four very important factors to consider when wrapping a surf rod:

- Properly spining the blank.

- Proper guide placement in relation to the spine.

- Proper positioning of the stripper guide in relation to the distance from the reel.

- Correct length of the butt.

You will also have the challenge of stripping off the old guides and restoring the blank finish to an acceptable level before wrapping on the new guides.

Please feel free to email me with any questions.
