Guide oxidation

Picked up a used heaver with some pretty bad oxidation on the metal hoop guides. Any recommendations on what to use to clean them to see if they are salvagable. Or should I just learn how to wrap? Thanks in advance Dave P.S. Check out my appraisal post on the main page.

Dave,

If the guidea are pitted in any way they should be replaced or you will get line fraying.

Try cleaning them with a paste made up of toothpaste and baking soda. Use a soft brush and scrub each guide well. Flush with warm water. Take a piece of absorbant cotton and run it around the inside of each guide. If the cotton catches then the guide needs to be replaced.
