Barnegat Bay Flounder Question

Rate this topic

Does anyone know if the winter flounder go back into the man made lagoons off the bay, or do they need more water movement? I'm not putting the boat in for another couple of weeks, but was thinking maybe to try some flounder off my dock if the white perch ain't around.

It never hurts to try. I don;t think water movement is the critical factor in the lagoons but feel the bottom muck and possible lack of food in it may not be to the flounders liken. Another factor is that they spawn this time of year and are more likely to be found in areas more conducive to egg laying.

Good points. The thing that makes me wonder a little is that occasionally, maybe once or twice each year, we'll find small fluke (6-8") in the crab trap by the dock. Probably won't get a chance to try tomorrow with this storm on the way, but maybe next week...
