Underwraps, et al.

Al,

Just wondering what the logic is to epoxying the underwrap. I used to use a color preserver if using NCP threads, but otherwise just placed the prepared guide on top of the bare threads. I'll be wrapping a bunch of rods over the next few weeks and I'm just trying to shake the dust off as I have not done it in a really long time.

Thanks,

Mike

Advantages are:

-Better color retention.

-You can overwrap with thinner thread resulting in a better looking wrap.

- Reduces cracking of finish at the guide foot.

Okay, that's several great reasons, the cracking being something I use to have to deal with a lot. Do you use a thin or low build epoxy on the underwraps or the same high build as you do on the top coat(s)?
