finish on underwraps

I understand the benefits of putting a thin coat of finish on underwraps before wrapping the guides on to protect the treads. Is it really necessary to to this on a butt wrap where there really is no stress? I found it very difficult to pack threads because of the hard smooth surface of the epoxy. It would seem easier to pack the threads of unfinished thread.

I never tried it with a butt wrap, but I have wrapped guides without finishing the underwrap first, all I can say is "Bubble Factory" icon15.gif
