How do you get that tape off?

Been reading up on old topics and could not find this topic listed,(although it seems you guys cover EVERYTHING; very cool) so thought I would ask the forum.

I have an old sabre blank I am going to rewrap for sturgeon. I got the guides and the spacing specs I need and got the old guides and wrap off, but am stumped about the cork tape. What's left of the old stuff is brittle, and when I try to peel it off it leaves a heack of a mess. I need a way to get the residue off without damaging the rod. Tried, alchol, acetone, no luck. Scraping seems the only option, but I fear scraping off part of the rod in the job.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks for the tips guys, couldn't find any goo gone in the cabinet so tried WD40, sprayed it on, let it sit, and it wiped right off, even the crusty stuff. Wiped it down with acetone and wow this thing looks good.

This is dangerous stuff, I stayed up till 1 am wrapping the blank last night. Too cool. cwm12.gif

I just did this 2 weeks ago... I was going to tell you what worked for me, but you already did it smile.gif . I really had trouble with the natural cork tape that I used as a base layer untill I soaked it w/ wd40 then used the dull back of a knife to gently scrape it off.

mr.t if you are going to put cork tape back .

go to a golf store and buy doubble face tape [$6.00]a roll. they use on golf handles. put the tape on to the left first .then the cork tape over the doubble faee tape to the right and rap thread on both ends .with epoxy.
