Costa Rica kayak fishing trip

4 posts in this topic

Hey guys:

I'm going to Costa Rica in July for two weeks, (my wife is from Costa Rica) I caught some nice snook ther last year. I plan to rent a kayak and bring my portable rod holders (hard plstic cooler with PVC rod holders bolted to it, works great!!!!) I would like to go after big game fish (marlin and sail fish are close to shore) I have a Penn 7500ss spinning rell and heavy rod. Would appreciate any advice on tackle, what pound line etc. thanks tomh

tomh, if you plan on tackling billfish from the yak I'd use conventional gear. Also a great item to have is a fishing seat with built in rod holders. I've got the StS plastic with brass adapters. This way I can use it with both Ocean Kayay rentals and all others.

Kayakjoe did some kayak fishing in CR this February. I'm sure that he'll be posting.

I would use lures like the new generation of plastics that are very realistic and go after Roosters.

hey there...I did some kayak fishing there in feb., fished the shrimp boats and had a blast, like john said leave the spinner home or just use it in the surf...you might need some power if you get into a rooster or some big jacks or even some small jacks. Where in Costa Rica are you going?
