Sidefinder update

7 posts in this topic

After several trips with the Sidefinder I continue to believe it is a better open water device than in a lake. The literature says otherwise so further experience may well prove me wrong. More importantly is the question of drag. When I remember to do it I rotate it up out of the water. When I don't I really don't notice the drag that much. The other interesting point is that when the force of the onrushing water rotates the transducer up to about a 45 degree angle, it's still pretty accurate. The Sidefinder transducer is unaffected by this.

As I said once before, what we know now is likely a lot less than what we will at the end of the season.

Please keep on coming with the updates of the sidefinder. I would really like to know how the sidefinder will work when the snappers invade the area. Thats the only thing holding me back from possibly installing 1.

Has anyone tried mounting the transducer onto their rudder? I would think you could make a more arrowdynamic housing so it doesn't interupt the flow of water accross the rudder. Just a thought.

The sidefinder transducer only looks out to one side. Mounting it on a rudder would restrict you to a 180 degree view.

According to their website the software in the unit filters out everything but fish over seven inches long. It can look at docks and show only the fish, if any. It can do the same with weeds and downed trees. It tells you how far the fish is numerically and how deep pictorially. I still think that experience will go a long way to maximizing the effectiveness. We'll see.

I already thought this up and I just can't get the smaller transducer from Bottom Line from the Fishin Buddy... See my post "Thwarted by Bottom Line" Anyway, I have already thought up a way to mount my Tournament 1250 (father's day present, if I ever get a chance to order it) transducer similar to KenL's method, but it has a kickup feature, a spring return (down) feature, and a stay up feature so it doesn't drag during my travels between spots.
