capsizing a kayak

2 posts in this topic

I have never fished from a kayak before and had a couple of questions about the stability of the kayak especially once you get a large fish on the line. also wouldn't it be difficult to get a rod out from the rog holder behind you and then turn the kayak around before you can start fighting the fish??

Any thoughts on this would be a great help.

thanks

Mount the rod holde in front of you just past your hands as you paddle. Alot of kayakers use the Ram system or Scotty holder and there are many different ways to mount them. Lets face it big fish are not the norm but fighting a large fish from a kayak will wear em down as the drag you and the yak around. I'm sure there are guys here that may offer some pictures of how they mount their holders. Another web site devoted strickly to kayak fishing has greater detailed instructions on this subject. You practice capsizing and recovery in your kayak during the summer months...this is a must. Good luck and be safe.
