When/Where NOT to kayak?

5 posts in this topic

When and where do you guys opt to leave the kayak behind? I'm hoping to get into this after I start with the wetsuiting, so I was wondering when the sharpies say it's too dangerous for the yak. One could say use common sense, but when it comes to fishing and my own well-being, I don't seem to have much biggrin.gif.

Thanks for any responses,

Jim

Cold water causes most fatalities. It's probably a consequences issue more than conditions. You become a freakin' weatherman. In nasty conditions, basicly wind, it's real hard to fish effectively. And when it's warm it's hard to really fatally screw up. Just don't lose the boat or paddle when you are offshore some place. Otherwise, if you are in decent shape and get some skills, you can bash around in a lot of stuff in a yak, especially SOTs. You have to use the tides some places where currents are big and around inlets.
