Wife has me at ocean more than rivers now and would like to do some fishing have good access to jetty's and beach. I have done alright with small white flys and medium bait imitators. Bt what size rod and line use when out on a jetty my 2 handed 5wt is way to small i know?

Super excited to get out there.

TH rods work very well off rocks and jetties. You get better line clearnace on back casts. Landing fish is similar to single hand rods.

9 or 10 wt for your SH rod will be good for everywhere.

I would suggest you find a book about salt water fly fishing. The answers to most of your questions can be found there. The search feature at SOL and Google are also your friends.

I have both 9 & 10 weight 9' SH rods. If I was going to go with one rod for jetties, blind casting deeper waters, boat fishing, or fishing in the surf I'd definitely go with my 10 weight. My 9 weight is great for flats and estuary fishing. Then I have my sweetie 6 weight for eartly season schoolies, love that rod!

The above advise is all great. Some good people here. I do prefer the 10wt if I could only have one rod also. What state and areas are you planning to fish mostly. That might also help others give you some better suggestions.

Yep, whatcha planning to fish for? What size flies? What conditions?

Most of the replies above, if not all are from East coasters. I see you are from the West coast. Your conditions might be very different than ours.
