Shark Fly

I used to tie a shark fly for a guide in Key West. Capt. Ralph Delph. It was a large Deceiver style fly, tied on a 5/0 hook in orange with lots of silver flash down the sides. The tails were tied with schlappen, and the bucktail was usually the stuff from the end of tail, the hair that flares a lot which make them appear larger. Even tied some with the hair flared to make them sink slower.

His instructions were to make them as big as the materials would allow. Most were at least 6 inches long. He was fishing shallow water, chumming the sharks in close to the boat & casting the flies so the sharks could see them.

I don't remember all the species of sharks he caught with them. I know he caught a lot of Lemon Sharks with those flies. Don't know about Makos.
