first sleigh ride

7 posts in this topic

Ive been playing with small stripers in the peconic river for a few days now and most have been around 15" but when it's just about every cast it's still a ball. But things changed Friday at sunset when I threw a 4" super Pop-R excalibur towards the docks near the bridge. A huge explosion onto my lure and I was off for a nice ride. The fish was taking me out past the bridge and all I could think is he going to stop or am I in for a long ride. I finally got the fish to the yak and when I saw his size I was exstatic. He took burned some more line off on a short lived second run. Liped em and marked him on the side of the yak for a later measurement. 37 1/4" not to fat my guess would be about and 18 pounder from the feel of him. But boy what a blast guys. Now I really know why this sport is getting lots of attention latley. Weakfish should be arriving soon, can't wait smile.gif
