Reel Help Needed.

I'll be using a loomis sur1142 or 1084 from the beaches on southern LI and throw plugs, tins, and bucktails. I like light gear and definitely want a van staal. I can't decide between the VS150 or VS200. I'm leaning towards the 150 due to the lighter weight but i see a lot of bigger reels on the beach.

Any advice.

Some day when the surf is running 6' or better and the wind is honking SW, you might want to think about getting a 10' or even longer rod. When you do, getting the 200 now for your 9 and 9-1/2 will save you close to $700. Probably more by then.

I've used the 200 on a 9' Sabre 1087, which is very close to your 1084 in weight and action, and it didn't feel out of place on it. The 150 would be a slightly better fit, I'll admit, but unless you can afford a stockpile of VS reels, you're next step in rods is likely to be upwards and the 200 will fit those rods better.

You also have more drag surface in the 200 size, and those VS drags are a constant source of complaints.
