Liberal racism. It's real. It's ugly. It's in front of the supreme court as we speak.

Michigan passed a constitutional amendment preventing colleges from considering "race" as a criteria for admission. Now to any fair minded people, that would sound like a fine thing. You are evaluated on your grades, tests, achievements and all the things that count and you can't be denied because of race. It means that white people cannot be given preferential treatment.

Cool except that it also means that minorities can't be given preferential treatment and THAT'S what's got the liberals filing lawsuits.

Affirmative action is racism.

Because they consider minorities to be inferior and incapable of succeeding on a level playing field.

good

it's one thing to say it's racist, but it needs to be explained, because people can't seem to see it that way.

actually, what you need to do is say affirmative action is all about whites being superior to minorities and ask people if they support that.

Affirmative action by its very definition is racism and its supporters racists.

Yes and no. For most of this country's history, minorities were institutionally repressed. When the civil rights era leveled the playing field, there was a justification to tilt it in the favor of minorities so as to break the societal structures and institutional racism that had been born from many years of repression.

Those days are over now. The wrongs have been righted and the cycle has been broken. There's no better evidence of that than a black man being elected President. However, lets not gloss over how affirmative action came about in the first place. It just hurts the discussion.

From REUTERS:

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican, wrote in the state's brief seeking the high court's review that the appeals court had adopted a theory that has been rejected by other courts in striking down a law that 58 percent of voters approved.

"Entrance to our great colleges and universities must be based upon merit, and I remain optimistic moving forward in our fight for equality, fairness and rule of law at our nation's highest court," Schuette added.

Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin will be decided this term.

"Yes and no."

I would not want to revisit the exclusionary, old white boys' network, which systematically and invidiously discriminated against women and people of color.

When it comes to equal opportunity, I firmly believe in the egalitarian ideal.

After bias-free preliminary screening, and a secondary, neutral selection process based upon applicants' specific qualifications, affirmative action directives that ensure continued equal opportunity must remain enforced; they are indispensable to a just society.

I adamantly oppose any and all egalitarianism that circumvents merit; when it is contorted to provide equality of result, the egalitarian ideal is perverted for this reason: Contrived equality of result nullifies equality of opportunity.

In Parents Involved in Community Schools v. Seattle School District No.1 (2007), Chief Justice John Roberts wrote: “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.”

"Racism" won't go away any time soon since it is the Democrats tool to win minority support . When the minorities figure out that the are being played for votes maybe they will turn around. Until then same old song and dance.

Achez, I agree but...

the GOP is not even pretending to are about minorities. At least the DEMs are lying to them and telling them what they want to hear. I think the GOP has done a horrible job of actually spelling out exactly how their plan (in detail) helps them vs how the DEM plan merely supresses them. People just cannot figure that stuff out without having someone go through it step by step. We already know that more than half of the voting public is simply stupid so yes it has to be explained to them plainly.

Example... yes if you vote for the LEFT DEVIL, then you will get a free $200 cell phone. However, if you vote for the RIGHT then your tax breaks based upon your current salary would be equal to about $2000 per year. So, do you want $2000 or a free $200 phone?

That scenario only works if you're WORKING FOR A LIVING!! Those not paying income taxes will take the Obamaphone every time, apples and oranges Son, apples and oranges.

As to the OP-Affarmitive Action is racism, plain and simple. What about the quote from Dr. Martin Luther King about a man being judged not on the color of his skin but on the content of his character?
