I use mine just to find my way back to the launch and very little of "X" marking the spot (though I can do that as well). Mine cost just under 100 bucks and works well for my needs. I have friends that mark reefs, drop offs and etc so they have one which gets them a few feet to each saved in their location database. You have plenty of options out there.

I've got the Garmin Map 76 and it has been very helpful. The screen is good size and the maps that I down load have been excellant. I use the Blue Chart maps and the Roads and Recreation for traveling directions. Comes in handy both ways. Kayaked a total of 200 miles this year- and tracked it all. Makes night fishing a lot easier... can find the reefs better, can measure distances and find my way home. Only down side would be cost of maps.

This is a Garmin 126, I don't know if they make this model any more but it works great. They go for adout 100-200 clams, this one was free so thats why I'am using it. Having the map would be sweet but its a little out of my price range. I would like to get one that was 100% waterproof in the future, although this has been dunked once and still works eek.gif .
