Ocean Kayak Caper Opinions

5 posts in this topic

Looking at getting an Ocean Kayak-Caper. Looking to use this mostly in the back bays, possibly out front in good weather. Any opinions if this boat is suitable for this?

Its ok - I have a caper. Scupper plugs are good on calm days. Its a wet ride without em. Very stable.

I put a couple of rear rod holders in (surface mount). Measure twice before you cut/drill.

The hatch is useless.

As - is - the hatch isn't sealed properly. I've had to rig a gasket of sorts to prevent seepage.

Its not entirely useless; I should clarify, if you have a sealed dry-duffle for extra clothes, then the hatch will be ok.

I don't use my hatch as I often thoght I would prior to yakking.

Hi

I have a Caper, and fish both a large inland impoundment, Lake Wallenpaupack, and Croton Bay on the Hudson so far, and it's been great. I haven't had a problem with the hatch yet, but I do keep spare clothes in a dry bag.

Take care,

Artie
