G-Man- How was Brenton Reef?

4 posts in this topic

Hi Jim,

Newport is so beautiful.

The fishing part was not all I hoped for.

The guy I met had a sit-in (another forum), and Brenton Reef is no place for a sit it. There was a good chop. It was great fun for my SOT and wetsuit. After an hour my buddy was no longer comfortable out there. We moved to a quietier area, actually a nice family bay area. We fished a little more, but he managed to flip his boat near the rocks. He only had shorts and tee shirt on, so it became rescue situation. frown.gif

He cut his knee, so we had to head back.

Thankfully, he was OK.

My family was doing the cliffwalk of the Newport mansions. They met me and we had a great picnic at the Ocean Drive park where at least 50 kites were flying.

All in all a nice day, but I really wanted to get back out on the Brenton Reef water.

I'll be doing that again soon.

I wish my fishing report was more exciting...such is life.

It sounded like it was going to be an exciting place to fish - or try to fish.

Thanks for replying. I checked the drive time, thought twice abt catching up with you Sat but decided it was too far for a day trip.

Hi Jim,

After visiting Newport around 12 times I will second that statement. I think the area around Fort Adams would be easier to yak and produce different species of fish.
