Chesapeake Bay Question

2 posts in this topic

Was curious to know if anyone here yakfishes on the Chesapeake Bay and if so, how do you find the weather conditions, your boats' ability, and the fishing? Do you encounter any other fish species besides stripers, blues, and white perch, which is what I've caught along with an occassional channel cat in the fresher water portions- One day late summer in the Chester River mouth where it empties into the bay, I was surrounded by some kind of rays, hundreds, quite a spectacle. Found out later when I asked at a local tackle shop, that the rays were probably spawning in the river.

Hmmmm, I've heard that name somewhere before. Perhaps the WWA Chesapeake board? Anyway, welcome to SOL.

I paddle a Necky Dolphin primarily on the waters of the upper Chesapeake (I live in B'more). I'm an unabashed fan of the Dolphin, mostly due to it's speed, weight, and quality, but it's not for everyone. I often fish big water and sometimes paddle long distances when trying to find fish. I really appreciate the Dolphin's low windage and ability to handle the rough stuff.

Depending on where I'm fishing, I catch the species you mentioned as well as croaker (hardhead), trout (sea and speckled), spot, flounder, and the occasional large ray.

Feel free to e-mail me, I'm often looking for a paddling partner.

Chris
