Kayak goog questions

3 posts in this topic

I want to try kayak fishing this year. I know nothing about them, never been in one. My main concern is ease of use and safety. I've heard SOT is the way to go for fishing. I will be be using it in backbays and rivers on calm days. I'm 6' and 260# so I need something sturdy. I'm also not looking for top of the line, big bucks stuff, something entry level for beginners in case It doesn't work out. Any suggestions? .......Thanks

OK Drifter and the Emotion Fisherman are 2 very good kayaks made for big guys. They are very stable and the cost is not that high. The Cobra Fish n Dive is super stable but the cost is high.

I've been very happy with my OK Scrambler XT.

At 6'3" and 235#, it's handled well in a variety of conditions and been comfortable.

I like the sit-on-top for a variety of reasons, a couple being that I can hang my feet over the sides, or sit side saddle. (a little more frequently in the sweet water than the salt)

It's smaller than the OK Drifter and slightly less in cost. Demo a bunch and you'll find the one to your liking.

Quick eyes on the road may also lead to a decent used kayak...
