Shooting Heads

1 post in this topic

Once again, major kudos to Orvis for outstanding customer service.

I bought a density compensated, full sink line, Class III(3.5 to 4.5 ips).

Used it twice and wasn't happy with the sink rate or the castability.

Orvis just told me to bring it in for an exchange or refund.

Used and no receipt!

They are GREAT!!!!

I decided to go with a sinking head system so I would have a thin running line for distance rather than trying to throw all the extra weight sitting behind the head.

I went with the Extra-Fast Sinking (38ft @ 3.75 to 6.5 ips)with 100ft of 30# test running line.

This is all on a 9wt outfit.

I've never cast w/heads before SO........

can any of you give me a few tips on what to expect and how to handle this line before I go out and start swinging away?

I know there's no real back casting.

A roll cast to start and one back cast should do it.

Also, is this applicable to the surf or is it too heavy?

My other outfit is intermediate.

Thanks guys!

BTW....Nailed 7 nice Blues on Thurs. in Hempstead Harbor about 50ft off the big jetty at Morgan Park.

All caught on a chartreuse/silver flash Jiggy.
